Fun for guests, friends and family
Residents of St George’s Hotel celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style! With a series of exciting events planned over four days, there were plenty of fun ways for everyone to join in.
Our fantastic staff worked really hard to make this a weekend to remember, and it was especially lovely to welcome so many friends and family to our party as we raised a glass to Her Majesty the Queen.
A busy schedule of events
Our festivities kicked off on Thursday 2nd June with Truro’s Jubilee Parade. Being so well located close to the city centre, we were fortunate to be able to watch the whole thing from front row seats on our own doorstep! Truro is a warm and active community and it was also the perfect chance to socialise with our neighbours and enjoy the street party atmosphere. We were delighted to be joined by Sgt Dave Pearce and Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer of Devon and Cornwall Police who stopped by for a chat as we waited for the parade.
Interviewed for an ITV News report about the Queen, St George’s resident Margaret perfectly captured the emotional mood of the day, saying, “I feel like crying. She’s such a marvellous example to everybody.”
The day continued with a traditional afternoon tea on the lawn. Sitting in our pretty garden to enjoy the glorious weather with homemade scones, fruity jam and lashings of clotted cream – well it doesn’t get much better than that!
St George’s ‘Big Lunch’
As a wonderful finale to four days of events, our fantastic team of carers and chefs came together to host St George’s ‘big little garden party’. Friends and family joined us for a delicious barbecue and we were brilliantly entertained by Vince Hall’s renditions of well-loved brat-pack classics. Truro Mayor Steven Webb also dropped in for a chat and a bit of a sing-a-long.
